Army Medical College, Chattogram

Bangladesh Army felt the necessity of possessing a group of energetic, motivated, and dedicated young professionals to lead the health sector in the 21st century. With this view, Army Medical College Chattogram (AMCC) was established at its temporary location in Combined Military Hospital Chattogram (CMHC) by a sanction letter from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. AMCC was inaugurated by the honorable Prime Minister of People’s Republic of Bangladesh on January 10, 2015. The College started its academic journey on January 11, 2015, with 50 students and 13 faculty members. Location for Permanent College Campus has also been selected at Khillapara beside BMA-Hathazari link road and the construction of the Permanent Campus is in progress.

The AMCC has been accredited by Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council (BM&DC). The college is affiliated with Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) which confers degree to the graduate doctors. The first batch of the college (2014-2015 session) has successfully completed their MBBS program in January 2020. Subsequent to the first batch every year 50 students are admitted into AMCC.

AMCC has a well spacious library. It is enriched with different types of books and journals. The library possesses a good collection of training video film/audio cassettes and professional slides. Enrichment of the library is a continuous process. Every year new and latest books will be added in the collection.

Location for Permanent College Campus has been selected near Military Farm. It has no permanent campus yet. Its temporary campus is inside Chittagong Combined Military Hospital (CMH). Classes are held inside tin shed rooms. It has four lecture galleries equipped with all modern teaching aids (of which two gallery is air conditioned). It has a dissection hall with attached preservation room, has a histology room and has a museum for the department of Anatomy. In addition it has well furnished laboratories for all other pre-clinical & para-clinical departments. Every departments have their own tutorial room. It has enough histology slides, cadavers, viscera and models in the department of Anatomy. Ward placement for the clinical years are held in Chittagong CMH. Medicine & Surgery ward of Chittagong CMH are now affiliated by BCPS and affiliation of BCPS for Gynae & Obstetrics ward, Eye & ENT ward are under process. Autopsy classes are held in Chittagong Medical College under special considerations.

The purpose of the AMCC Library is to support academic and research activities. The library carries out its mission by:

  1. a) fulfilling the course-related needs of MBBS students.

 

  1. b) meeting the scholarly needs of faculty members and students.

 

  1. c) providing users with access to materials located inside the library system.

 

  1. d) equipping users with the skills and resources needed for continuous lifelong learning.

 

  1. e) promoting information services in a manner that reflects the distinctive character of the medical college.
